Introductory Notes for Teachers

“Lisa’s No Pizza” is a online educational tool developed with the use of edrama, by Hi8us and pupils of Mayfield School, Holte School and Heathfield in Birmingham in the UK. It is designed to help the other Key Stage 2 pupils explore the issues around bullying.

The project covers the non-statutory guidelines set out in the Key Stage 2, PSHE and Citizenship Programme of Study from the National Curriculum. It explores 1 a, b, c, 2 a, c, d, e, f 3 a, f 4a, d, g, 5 a, b, c, g, h. It also answers many of the general teaching requirements of the Use of Language and ICT, also found in the National Curriculum. Elements of the Inclusion and Health and Safety can also be covered.

A Scheme of Work, with 10 Lesson Plans, can be accessed with suggestions on the use of the animation “Lisa’s No Pizza”. This educational tool is versatile and it is recommended teachers use a flexible, but sensitive approach. The personal experience of the pupils needs to be recognised, acknowledged and considered.

The Scheme of Work concludes with the production of a Bully Book. However, it could give opportunities for pupils to look at their schools Anti-bullying Policy and to, maybe, offer staff some positive ideas on updating the policy. It may be appropriate for pupils to use the scripts and ideas presented, in an assembly for other pupils. This could make a fitting end to the project.

“Lisa’s No Pizza” can also be used as a “dip into” resource with open access to pupils who want to learn more about bullying. With supervision, it could be used as a tool to resolve conflict caused by bullying.

There are many websites that give further information. It is wise to explore the sites yourself before asking children to access them both to familiarise yourself with them and to make sure updates are suitable.
